Bussa's Slave Rebellion made the colonial planters hesitate about the risks of oppressing totally free people from Africa. The UN calls it a crime against humanity.
The rebelling was overcome by the English Militia, which included many free Africans as well as slaves. Although it did not topple the plantocracy, it did assist the case for the anti-slavery activists and made planters make note that slavery was not sustainable.

For example: When someone tossed a drink at him, he, without delay, tossed the components of a wine cooler over their head. On another occasion, when mocked by a comedian, who made an audacious comment about him, he returned the insult by stealing away the comics' renowned green bowler hat. Straight past safety and security as well as the concierge, he strolled with a defiant air as well as his seductive grinning chuckle.
This was his way; he would invariably not let much pass him and always returned insult with a double step of the same, however wrapped in appeal. He seldom showed anger, but it was ready when required.

he died. He feared for his life at every turn. He had never seen such
brutal cruelty as these white men perpetrated on fellow Africans and
their own people. They were true savages, he thought.

This spirited, sometime amiusing and always tru and informative, starts with "an Ialnad Stands Alone."
When the Britsh got their with ships of men to settle it and claim it fo the king, it was bare and deserted. It had It sat like a coral rock, thick with woods, sticking out of the sea and miles away from anywhere; lost, forgotten, and unwanted.
The English settled it by fate, luck, and bad advice, and no one dared to take it.
But you need to read the book Rogues in Paradise to understand this tale.
Barbados Chattel Houses are scattered throughout the island. They are tiny little wooden homes sitting on rocks with no foundation. Thats becuase the land was usually owned by the planters who would often evict the ownrrs. In that case the homes were packed on carts and moved to another plot.
You will see them beside some of the most stunning landscapes, on the hils and beside the beaches. Many are right beside deluxe villas, mingled right into the fabric of the island.
Living next to many of the the luxury villas and stately homes are the chattel house owners, sugar cane cutters, fishermen, working men and women, along with Hollywood stars.
It is a landscape of stylish, stately homes flanked by tiny, unpretentious dwellings of everyday folk. The tiny houses, some say, are inappropriately close to deluxe holiday accommodation. By visitor expectations, Chattel home may well seem like an eye soar. Yet, the majority of Chattel Home owners take pride in their modest house and keep them clean and tidy.
British Born Helen, creates in unique, bespoke/keepsake wooden plaques, painting positive messages and whimsical designs onto driftwood, reclaimed wood, and cut timber from the Lumberyard.
